General Information:

There was a time when visit to the north eastern Indian states was for adventure seekers. Fortunately, a lot has changed since for the better so that the beauty of the place and culture of its people can be enjoyed and appreciated by all tourists.
  • Marked improved road, rail and air connectivity.
  • Condition and quality of main highways and major city roads have drastically improved. Even the ghat section roads are being widened and immediately repaved after landslides.
  • Places of interest are made tourist friendly with proper walkways, signs, toilets, dustbins and eating places.
  • There is a wide choice of hotels and Airbnb accommodations.
  • There is a choice of good eateries along the highways catering to local, North Indian, South Indian, Chinese and Continental food.
  • Alcohol is cheap (cheapest in Arunachal Pradesh) as compared to other states in India (except Goa) and these are many wine shops. Tourist need not carry alcohol with them.
  • Taxis are easily available.
  • Almost all places specially Meghalaya are kept very clean as compared to the rest of the country.
  • People are friendly and helpful.
  • All NE states are peaceful and safe.
  • In short, every tourist should put north east states on the list of must visit places.
  • Good time to visit NE is anytime except rainy season and Dec to Feb for Tawang (Arunachal Pradesh). Also some popular waterfalls maybe dry between March to May.
